Maple Ginger Cake


1/2 cup white sugar
2 tbsp shortening
1 egg (beaten well)
1 tbsp soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 cup molasses
1/4 cup pure maple syrup
1/2 cup sour milk (add a tsp of vinegar to milk to sour it)
1 tsp ginger
1 1/2 cups flour


Mix ingredients in order as given, beat well, bake in moderate oven, 350°F for 35 to 40 minutes. This makes a delicious dessert to serve with whipped cream or served with vanilla ice cream with pure maple syrup poured over it as a sauce.
