Discovery at the End of the Journey

Sometimes, you just need to get away for a little rest and relaxation at a place where the food is phenomenal, the folks are friendly, and the accommodations are fabulous. Such is the way of life in eastern Prince Edward Island.
While planning a time away to rekindle my relationship with my husband, I did a little research and was delighted to find out that there are new things happening on the eastern side of the Island this year. Firstly, there is a new touring region. The region itself is not new, but there are many new things to see and do. The Points East Coastal Drive starts at Cherry Hill, encompasses 412 kilometres of rich coastal land, in and out of harbours and fishing villages, and ends at Mount Stewart. The route is horseshoe shaped and juts around the coast to all the quaint little places that need to be experienced to be understood. There are lighthouses and thirty or more beaches to be explored. There are restaurants and inns to find. There are bed and breakfasts and cottages to visit. The Georgetown King’s Playhouse is one of the oldest theatres around, and operates from early July to late August. Because no place on the Island is more than 16 kilometres from the sea, much of your time may be spent just taking in the beauty of the surroundings, holding hands, walking on the beach and through the villages, spending time just being in love.
This year, the island is host to famous golf legends Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson, friends and rivals who will be featured at the Dundarave Golf Course on June 19th and 20th. This is part of the Making the Connection Legends of Golf. With a live gallery watching, and both national and international broadcasts of the showdown, it is sure to be a must-see event.
Enjoy all the comforts of home while being close to nature. Have the opportunity to seal watch and enjoy each other’s company while dining in style and staying at one of many great accommodations. This is exactly what two busy parents need to remind each other of the reasons that they are together. Fasten your seatbelts and embark on a drive that will have you discovering more than you’d hoped for at the end of the journey.
